The following video demonstates the clinical benefits of cochlear implantation. The patient was implanted with the hybrid device as part of a multi center clinical trial performed in a number of centers nationwide. Dr. Fishman was the lead investigator for the Northwestern participating center. It serves as a good example of the difficulties that cochlear implant candidates experience and the ultimate benefits that they receive from the perspective of our patient and family.
The following video divided into part one and part two shows the surgery for the Nucleus® CI512 style device developed by the Cochlear™ Corporation. During my faculty tenure at New York University School of Medicine,
we collaborated with the Cochlear™ Corporation to develop this electrode as well as designing the most appropriate surgical method of implantation.
